Food. Shelter. Comfort. Hope

It is our mission to be there and help those in need—whether disaster strikes thousands of people at once or just one family in the middle of the night.  We are helping families every day in our community here in the Southeast Los Angeles County to stay healthy and keep safe. The Red Cross is an independent, non-profit organization and it’s only because of the generosity of the American people that our doors stay open.

Should you have questions regarding any of the donation means below, or would like to discuss another opportunity to help support our community, please call  (562) 945-3944.

No gift has a more lasting impact than a bequest or gift from your estate. As an American Red Cross donor, you can show your compassion and use your giving to achieve personal goals, enhance financial security and help shape the future of the Rio Hondo Chapter.

Planned gifts can include: Gifts of Cash or Securities, Retirement Plan Assets, gifts through your will or insurance policies, and living trusts. Please be sure to check with your tax advisor or financial planning professional for additional information on how you can leave your legacy.

Donate Your Car
To donate your used vehicle to the American Red Cross call toll-free (888) 5-RED-CROSS (888-573-3276) or email at your convenience donations@charitableautoresources.com to speak to an American Red Cross Vehicle Donation Representative. Our Representative will schedule a free pickup that's convenient for you, and will provide you with confirmation of your donation.

If the gross proceeds from the sale of your donated vehicle are $500 or more and if you provide your social security number to our Representative at the time of your donation, you will also receive an IRS tax form 1098C stating the sale price of the vehicle. This amount is what you actually claim on the itemized tax return.

Donate your Used Cell Phone
Several local chapters of the American Red Cross recently partnered with Full Circle Wireless, the leading recycler and reseller of previously owned wireless devices and accessories, to offer our supporters another way to give. Everyone has at least one old cell phone stored away in a "junk drawer." Turn that old phone into a valuable donation that can help save lives and make a real difference. You can bring your phone in to our office at 6706 S. Friends Avenue in Whittier

Donate Goods

Throughout the year, many organizations have generously contributed products or services from their business including paper supplies and printing, as well as items like gift certificates or meal and beverage as form of sponsorship for our special fundraiser events.

After a disaster, though well intentioned, the American Red Cross does not accept unsolicited, spontaneous donations of goods and services for emergency relief purposes as they may have hidden costs and pose a number of complications for relief efforts.

Small items such as collections of food, used clothing, and shoes often must be cleaned, sorted, and repackaged which impedes the valuable resources of money, time, and personnel that are needed for other aspects of our relief operation. The Red Cross, in partnership with other agencies, suggests that the best use for those types of donations is to support needy agencies within donors' local communities.

The best way to help a disaster victim is through a financial donation to the American Red Cross. Financial contributions allow the Red Cross to purchase exactly what is needed for the disaster relief operation. Monetary donations also enable the Red Cross to purchase relief supplies close to the disaster site which avoids delays and transportation costs in getting basic necessities to disaster victims. Because the affected community has generally experienced significant economic loss, purchasing relief supplies in or close to the disaster site also helps to stimulate the weakened local economy.
